First Things First

I know some of you are aching to know about the mysterious picture of a diamond ring on a left hand in the previous post. However, before I tell you about the man who's officially become part of our family by giving the ring, I have to first tell you about the two other boys who joined our clan earlier this spring.
Much to Havilah's total surprise, her mare Lily, who was purchased last spring, gave birth to a little (and I mean very little) colt this spring! We were out of town when the baby was born and we were first given the report that it was a girl, and the next day we heard that she wasn't doing very well and probably wouldn't live.
However, by the time we got home, "she" had become a "he" and was now doing fine!

"Loxley's Little Mystery" (aka Loxley) has grown fast and is now shedding out to be a black.
Just a couple of months after the surprise arrival of Loxley, Avery's mare, Sugar, was due to have a baby. Two hours before we left on a long trip, Sugar laid down in the pasture and we all watched her give birth to a beautiful brown and white colt!

"Deputy" was as big as Loxley at two months the day he was born, and after spending a frustrating (for us) hour learning how to nurse, he has continued growing. Loxley and Deputy now get to tag along on trail rides when their moms go.
